Tell us a bit about yourself

I have recently joined Milsted Langdon as a Tax Manager and have been working in tax for almost 7 years having qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser 3 years ago.

Which women inspire you the most?

There are so many women who inspire me in my life as there are incredible women at the helm of countries, NGOs and multinational businesses. The women in my family are also a huge source of inspiration for me.

My grandmother was a manager of the Firearms and Explosives Licencing Department of the local police force, and my mother is a healthcare assistant working with vulnerable and disabled adults. They both embody what being a woman means to me; strong but caring.

This year’s IWD theme is #EmbraceEquity, what does this mean to you?

To me, #EmbraceEquity means that everyone regardless of gender should try to recognise where inequalities still exist in our world and work towards developing a level playing field instead.

For example, in the world of tax, there are some policies which can be seen to exacerbate gender and wealth inequalities, for example the difference between tax rates on employment income and dividend investment income as certain groups are more likely to be employed than have investment income and vice versa.

This is an area where a focus by governments on equity rather than equality could help to close the wealth gap and gender tax gap.
