International Forensic Accountancy network receive flurry of interest

Members of MGI Worldwide’s Global Forensic Group have been working hard on a wide range of international matters after seeing an increase in the number of cross-border instructions following its launch.

The group is made up of forensic accountants within MGI Worldwide member firms. MGI is an international network of accountants with more than 5,000 experts in 250 locations around the world.

The formation of the Forensic Group has resulted in a surge in the number of enquiries from lawyers around the globe who seek to rely upon the group’s multi-jurisdictional offering.

Its recent work spans a wide range of international litigation issues, fraud cases and cross border divorces and has included the provision of expert accountancy evidence for the defence team in relation to allegations by the UK Serious Fraud Office of a $100 million “Boiler Room Fraud”, tracing funds through the UK, US, Croatia, Hong Kong, Dutch Antilles, Holland and Switzerland.

The group has also advised on an international property portfolio in the UK and Cyprus, and a commercial dispute between a US holding company and its UK subsidiary, as well as criminal confiscation proceedings involving assets in the Netherlands, Liechtenstein Nigeria and the Isle of Man.

MGI Worldwide’s Vice-Chairman, Roger Isaacs said: “Our establishment of the Global Forensic Group has been well-timed as it has coincided with a flurry of enquiries from professionals and businesses around the world.

“By collaborating with other MGI member firms, the Global Forensic Group and my own firm Milsted Langdon we have been able to work on a wide range of issues for clients in a number of countries, securing cost-effective outcomes for our ultimate clients.”

Roger, who is a Forensic Partner at Milsted Langdon, added that the other advantage of the group had been its ability to keep costs from becoming disproportionate by avoiding the need to instruct an expert in every jurisdiction.

Instead, one expert takes the lead and relies on factual (non-opinion) evidence from accountants in other jurisdictions on tax and accounting issues.

“We are able to offer great value for money” said Roger “and we have the advantage that we all speak the same language.”
