M&A Activity Hits £140 Billion

A report released towards the end of last week, has revealed that the total value of British mergers, acquisitions, right issues and share placings soared by twenty-nine percent – to £141 billion – during the first quarter of 2012.

The latest figures have revealed that M&A transactions worth between £10 million and £100 million throughout the UK were down by twenty-percent in volume and value during the first quarter; whilst the volume of deals also fell to 2,084.

However, despite the decrease in volume of transactions; and the fall in M&A transactions worth between £10 million and £100 million, the latest report has revealed that the total value of M&A activity within the UK has managed to increase during the first quarter of 2012.

The increase in value is being attributed to an increase in the number of deals worth £1 billion or more; with figures revealing that twenty-four such transactions have taken place during the first quarter of the year – sixteen of which have involved foreign companies purchasing UK assets.
