Meet the Expert – A quick Q&A with Jon Edge

In our latest “Meet the Expert” feature, Jon Edge, General Practice Partner tells us about his experience in accountancy, how he advises his clients and shares his hobbies outside of work.

Tell us about your experience in the profession

I have worked in accountancy since 1998, working with small and medium-sized businesses and their owners/directors. Previous to that, I started my career in a medium size motor group.

I joined Milsted Langdon in January 2020 (good timing with Covid just around the corner!).

I have a particular interest in management reporting, including working with clients to design specific systems that help them focus on the important numbers in the business and to help plan for the future.

Previously I have had experience in many areas of accountancy, including payroll, accounts, VAT/tax and advisory. Most of my time is spent advising clients on a wide range of matters now.

What do you find most rewarding about your role?

I like working with clients on an ongoing basis, rather than preparing and advising regarding accounts and tax returns once a year, so I try to meet clients as much as possible.

As mentioned, I look to review the current results and future plans to advise on how systems and margins can be improved to increase profitability.

Some specific projects recently have seen me advising on the acquisition of a business and reviewing the vehicle fleet, from a commercial cost and tax perspective.

I have also been assisting a business on their move from a desktop to cloud accounting system, for a sizeable retail group.

Outside of work, what are your hobbies?

Most of my time outside of work is spent with the family and two children. When I get the opportunity I still (try to!) play football and I am a keen fan of Formula 1.
