As the US signals that it would like a closer trade relationship with the UK, award-winning accountants Milsted Langdon have taken part in a workshop designed to help UK SMEs to export and expand their businesses in the US.
The US is one of the UK’s closest trading partners and the recent talks of a renewed trade deal following the appointment of Boris Johnson as Prime Minister has piqued the interest of many SMEs.
Held on 18 July, America Made Easy was hosted by Newable, in association with Business West and the Department for International Trade (DIT) and included a presentation from Simon Rowe of Milsted Langdon.
His presentation, entitled ‘An Englishman in New York – An accounting perspective on spotting the differences’, covered his recent trips to the US and what he had learned about the nature of business and accounting on the other side of the pond.
His detailed breakdown of the difference between accounting practices was well received by guests, who also heard from a variety of other local professionals on a wide range of topics.
Speaking after the event, he said: “We had a great morning talking to Bristol businesses about how we can use our membership of the MGI Network to help them enter and expand into the US market.
“There was a very diverse range of businesses in terms of sector and size and it was great to see so many business leaders thinking positively about growth and expansion.”
More than 30 businesses attended the event, which helped them to understand the practical side of getting started in the US and the pitfalls that they may face.
Milsted Langdon has already helped a number of businesses set up and expand in the US through its membership of MGI Worldwide – a leading global accountancy network which has hundreds of members around the world.
