Five new videos could help charity trustees improve their understanding of charity management and governance, it has been suggested.
Launching the campaign, the Charity Commission said the “visually engaging animated videos” could help trustees remain “certain in uncertain times”.
The videos are designed to complement each of the regulator’s five-minute guides introduced in November last year.
According to the Charity Commission, each video will provide “simple, easy to understand information on all the governance basics trustees need to know”, from financial oversight and charity purposes to good decision making and conflicts of interest.
The guides will also help trustees stamp out fraud, following a recent study revealing that criminal activity cost the sector some £3.6 million since the start of the pandemic in March.
Commenting on the campaign, Paul Latham, Director of Communications and Policy at the Charity Commission, said: “The past year has been incredibly tough for charities. The pandemic has meant they are facing unprecedented challenges and trustees are making very difficult decisions, often at pace.
“In these uncertain times, we want to help trustees feel more confident they are getting things right. This campaign is aimed at new and experienced trustees alike – all charities stand to gain from trustees who take active responsibility for acquiring and refreshing their knowledge of sound charity management.”
The videos will be posted across the regulator’s social media channels from this week.
