A national newspaper has published its latest league table, ranking Britain’s fastest-growing tech, media and telecoms firms.
The Hiscox Tech Track 100, which appeared in The Sunday Times, showed that a sizeable number of the UK’s burgeoning enterprises are setting up base outside the capital.
Indeed, 43 of the firms which made the list are headquartered outside London, including four of those to feature in the Top 10.
Cybersecurity developer Darktrace – which has grown its sales to £31million – was among the highest placed businesses.
Also securing a prominent position was TheLADBible Group, which produces content for social media and is thought to be followed by half of all British men aged 18 to 24.
The Tech Track list provides some valuable data on the current shape of the tech industry, with over two thirds of firms featured having secured funding from venture capital and private equity firms.
It was also apparent that software development makes up a significant proportion of fast-growing enterprises. 21 companies from this sector made it onto the list and it is estimated that their combined sales topped £320million.
The list also shows that the industry still needs to do more to encourage female entrepreneurs. Despite the fact that an increasing number of women are setting up their own business, only 10 of the 100 businesses in the Tech Track rankings are run or were founded by a woman.
