Our Intervention Team was recently instructed to deal with a property portfolio for an individual who had suffered a life changing health event.
The company had many facets and it was clear that the business owner had been very successful at driving the business forward and running multiple projects simultaneously with a very small support team.
Unfortunately, this was no longer possible for him, and whilst there were no issues of capacity, he and his family recognised that it wasn’t possible for him to handle matters in the way That he had previously.
We met with the business owner and a number of parties involved and devised a plan, alongside family members, to take-on the majority of the more demanding projects and see them through to completion for him.
This was a tough decision for a man who had clearly always been very capable of managing anything he put his mind to in the past.
However, we presented a plan, which balanced his need to be involved with the practicalities of getting the projects completed and were duly appointed.
We are now in the process of managing the completion of a housing development along with the management of a commercial and residential letting portfolio.
As ever these projects require us to liaise with numerous stakeholders, including lenders, planning authorities, tenants, agents and staff, to keep the show on the road.
The aim of these projects is always about value retention. Business owners have spent a lifetime building businesses and an asset basis to look after them and their families and it is crucial that this is not lost.
If action is not taken, or taken too slowly, then matters can quickly spiral downwards and liabilities mount while asset values diminish leading to a poor outcome for all concerned.
Prompt positive action delivered in an appropriate manner can stem that tide and ensure that all is not lost.
