Accountant who helped subpostmasters in Post Office Horizon IT scandal wins prestigious national award

One of the UK’s leading forensic accountants, Roger Isaacs, has been named Practice Leader of the Year at the Accounting Excellence Awards for his role in helping more than 500 subpostmasters and subpostmistresses receive compensation following the Post Office Horizon IT scandal.

The most prestigious award in the accounting industry has recognised Roger, who leads the forensic accountancy team at South West and London-based firm Milsted Langdon, for his work in securing millions of pounds of compensation.

To support those affected, Roger recruited a team of 20 experienced forensic analysts to work exclusively on Post Office Horizon IT compensation cases, working with law firms behind the claims to seek financial redress for those affected.

Explaining their choice of Roger as Practice Leader of the Year, the judges said: “This is an individual who led in a way that can demonstrate meaningful impact to a group of people who were wronged. This isn’t just accounting, it is life-changing, justice-providing work.”

Roger is a highly regarded forensic accountant and expert witness, who sits as the National Technical Director of the Network of Independent Forensic Accountants (NIFA).

Alongside his work on the Horizon IT scandal, Roger also regularly appears in the County Court, the High Court, and the Magistrates Court, as well as in the International Court of Arbitration, the Employment Tribunal and the Lands Tribunal, providing expert testimony and evidence.

Outside of his regular role advising clients, Roger is also a well-respected commentator and a lecturer, who helps others within the profession on a range of related topics, including Business Valuation, Strategic Planning and Directors’ Duties.

He has also chaired the MGI Worldwide international accountancy network and the Practice Leader award recognised the impact of his introduction of a Shadow Youth Board to MGI, which has played an important role in harnessing the enthusiasm of the profession’s next generation of accountants.

Speaking about his latest award win, Roger said: “Being chosen as the winner of this incredible accolade is really gratifying and is well-deserved recognition of my wonderful team

“Supporting the subpostmasters and subpostmistresses has been a highlight of my career and I have felt exceptionally fortunate to have been able to play a part in helping so many people achieve the best possible financial redress, albeit recognising that nothing could ever fully compensate those worst affected by the Horizon Scandal.

“I would like to thank everyone at the Accounting Excellence Awards for raising the profile of our firm’s recent work and sharing our success with the rest of the profession.”

Roger stressed that the award not only reflects his leadership within his firm and the accountancy profession, but also the dedication and hard work of his carefully assembled forensic team, which has played an important role in supporting its clients throughout the Post Office Horizon scandal.

“I can’t say enough how impressed I have been with the team’s amazing efforts, and tenacity in getting the best outcomes for our clients,” said Roger.

The award was presented to Roger at a glamorous awards evening on 30 September at The Roundhouse in London.
