In our new ‘meet the expert’ feature, Ed Mole, Assistant Payroll Manager based in our Taunton office, tells us about his role, the importance of keeping in contact with your payroller and how he spends his time outside of work.
Tell us about your role
I joined Milsted Langdon nearly three years ago after coming from a retail management background. I started as a Payroll Admin Assistant, and since then have completed both AAT levels 2 and 3, and the CIPP Advanced Payroll Technician qualification.
I am now an Assistant Payroll Manager, where I spend a lot of my time managing the team to ensure that payrolls are processed accurately and on time, liaising with clients regarding a variety of payroll topics, and processing a portfolio of my own payroll clients.
What is the one key piece of advice you are currently giving to clients?
I believe communication is the key to a successful payroll. There are often a broad spectrum of queries and questions that need to be answered when processing a payroll, and we are usually working with a very tight deadline to ensure that employees are paid on time.
Additionally, as HMRC are regularly revising payroll legislation, the payroll department are requiring additional information to process a simple element such as holiday pay.
My advice would be to try to maintain regular contact with your payroller so that we can obtain any additional information as easily as possible when needed.
Outside of work, what are your hobbies?
I spend most of my time outside of work with my family and friends or binging the one of the latest series on Netflix!
