Meet the expert – a quick Q&A with Gill Freeman

In our latest ‘meet the expert’ feature, Gill Freeman, Partner and Head of our Charity & Not for Profit team, answers a few questions about her role and discusses an upcoming event to support charities and Not for Profits in the current climate.

Tell us about your role

I’m a General Practice Partner at Milsted Langdon, and I joined the firm in 2005. Since then, I’ve developed the firm’s Charity and Not for Profit offering, which is a specialist area that I head up.

I work with charities alongside working with my commercial clients, who are mostly made up of SMEs across the South West, where I typically help businesses with their accounts, audit and assurance procedures.

Having this dual-role is very rewarding as there’s a lot of learning and shared experiences that can benefit my clients from any sector – whether businesses or Not for Profit.

I enjoy building strong relationships with my clients and having an in-depth knowledge of them and their businesses or organisations, to provide the best advice that offers real economic value.

Do you have a career highlight so far?

One highlight came in 2019, where my work and achievements were recognised when I won the Successful Women in Business award for Professional Services.

This award recognised my work as a specialist in advising charities, Not for Profit organisations and owner-managed businesses, as well as the support I provide to colleagues. The award celebrates women who have demonstrated fantastic customer service and supported their industry by championing the success of other women, so it was definitely a great highlight that I’m proud of.

I also organise a popular women’s networking event a couple of times a year which has gained quite a following and is always fully subscribed – it’s a fun and informal space for women to network over a fun activity, so that’s always an annual highlight!

What events do you have coming up?

On 15 June I’ll be speaking at the South West Charity Conference, which is organised by The Business Exchange, and is an event that Milsted Langdon has supported from its inception in 2018.

I’ve spoken at this event every year and always recommend it to my clients as it’s a fantastic opportunity for local businesses, charities, and Not for Profits, to connect, share learnings and go for growth with far-reaching benefits to our surrounding communities.

The day will be full of networking opportunities, seminar and workshop sessions and inspiring keynotes.

I will be talking about the latest hot topics when it comes to opportunities and challenges for charities and not-for-profit organisations.

My seminar session will include a Q&A opportunity to discuss any burning finance and accountancy-related questions or issues affecting your organisation and to share experiences and best practice in a safe environment with supportive and like-minded peers in the Third Sector.

Milsted Langdon is a founding sponsor of the event which is taking place on Thursday 15th June at Bath Racecourse from 8:30am-4pm.

The Business Exchange Charity Conference & Expo is free to attend but booking is essential. To find out more about the conference and to book your free tickets click here.
